Background
The purpose of the 200 North Kaysville Overpass Project is to eliminate safety concerns and traffic delays at the railroad crossing just west of I-15 by building an overpass to separate vehicle traffic from train traffic. Current wait time for train traffic and railroad maintenance at the 200 North railroad crossing often exceeds an hour, causing traffic backups and access difficulties. The building of the overpass will eliminate the wait time associated with train traffic and will also increase safety by eliminating the potential for vehicle-train collisions.

Location and General Overview
The project will begin at the I-15 southbound ramp on the east and end at Kays Drive (900 West) on the west. The length of the project corridor is about 2,000 feet. An overpass will be constructed over the railroad tracks, raising 200 North approximately 30 feet above the existing tracks. The tracks will be spanned by a 142-foot-long bridge. Because of the height of the new bridge, retaining walls will extend along 200 North for most of the length of the project.

The existing side streets east of the tracks - 600 West and 650 West - will be realigned to create one elevated intersection at approximately 600 West as the overpass begins to rise. A sidewalk will be added to the north side of 200 North for the length of the project. Curb and gutter will be located along the new road within the project limits. The 200 North/Kays Drive intersection will have a traffic signal installed. The need for and benefit of a possible traffic signal at the newly-aligned intersection at 600 W. and 200 N. was also analyzed, and a signal will not be installed at this location at this time.

Anticipated Construction Impacts
200 North will generally remain open throughout the construction period by means of a phased detour route located about 50 feet north of the existing 200 North roadway. Brief closures of 200 North may be needed for some construction activities. These closures will be minimal and a designated detour route will be provided. Business access will be provided at all times throughout the construction period.

To decrease congestion in the construction area, the project team relocated the UTA Park & Ride lot during construction of the overpass to the east side of I-15. Following construction, the Park & Ride lot will be returned to its original location.
